· FireEye detonates the traffic in a virtual environment (running dozens of virtual images). These Virtual Machines on the appliance are running all different versions and service packsof Microsoft Operating Systems, different versions and service packs of internet browsers and browser plug-ins, different versions of Microsoft Office, Adobe and dozens of other applications that essentially “mirror” the common applications running on a PC that are being exploited today
· By observing the behavior of the traffic in our virtual environment we are able to determine if the traffic is malicious and block all sub sequential call backs
· Once FireEye detects a 0-day threat the appliance updates our MAX cloud so that other FireEye customers can be protected against the threat
· FireEye also observes outbound traffic for signs of data exfiltration, callback to command and control servers, etc.
